The Trax utilizes an extremely fuel-efficient 1.4L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine. Despite its diminutive size, this engine makes 138 horsepower, plenty to pull the relatively light Trax through city traffic with its 6-speed automatic transmission. Its EPA rating of 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway is excellent for an SUV.
